ITINERARY

To get to the starting point of the trek (which is at a place called Munsyari) you would need to travel for two days from Delhi across a range of several mountains.

October 11: Travel from Delhi to Jageshwar by the morning train at 0600 hours, arriving Kathgodam at noon. You will be met and transferred to Jageshwar (4 hours). Overnight stay in Van Serai.

October 12: Morning after breakfast drive to Munsiyari (220 km, 8 hr.) a journey that would take the full day to complete.
This drive is across a range of mountains past small hill towns like Chaukhori, Thal, Birthi Falls and finally Munsiyari. The final stretch of the road ascends to a height of 2748 mts. before descending into the glorious Munsiyari valley. Check in at the The Last Frontier – Wayfarer Munsiyari lodge for a much deserved rest.
This lodge is situated amidst a forested area and offers a completely local experience. It overlooks the magnificent Panch Chulli range.

October 13: This is a day for local acclimatization. A short day trek to get used to the terrain is always planned. Stay at the lodge.

October 14: After breakfast drive for 6km to by jeep to Chilam Dhar and then the trek begins. Our destination today is Lilam Village (7 km) where we camp for the night.

October 15: Today is a strenuous walk (17 km) starting from Lilam village along a gorge away from the Gori Ganga River. The route is all the way uphill to a place called Nain Singh top from where we descend to the camp site at Bugdyar . The route is fairly steep but generally eases off before reaching the camp site at Bugdyar (3100 mt., 17 km).

October 16:
You are in high mountain country now and the tree line disappears giving access to vast stretches of Alpine pastures. The day's walk from Bugdyar is past Lhaspa to our camp site at Rilkot (3300 m / 12 km).

October 17: From Rilkot you will continue to Ganghar village (3460 mt., 9 km). Throughout the day one gets intermittent views of magnificent Himalayan peaks and just after reaching campsite you will glimpse Nanda Devi East.

October 18:
It is the big day when you walk from Ganghar to Pachu (3950 mt., 8 km) and the camp site is in an exquisite location. An Alpine meadow laden with rhododendron bushes blooming pink and white, stretches of glacial ice and the massive Nanda Devi looming in front... the mountain is just another 5 km away.

October 19: How can you walk away from here? It is a day to rest and simply enjoy yourself in this magnificent location. Options include the hike up to the snow ridges of Nanda Devi East and a visit to the base of Nanda Lampak (5782 mt.). There have been several sightings of blue sheep in the region.

October 20: It is time to return and we descend from Pachu to a magnificent and deserted hamlet called Martoli (3385 mt. 5 km) Our camp site is next to a small mountain lake amidst a lush green meadow and offers immense scenery. The north faces of the Nanda Devi peaks, several peaks on the Nanda Devi Sanctuary wall and Hardeol group are visible.

October 21: From Martoli we head back to Rilkot (3300 mt., 8 km). This is a steady walk and mostly along a ridge, we camp at Rilkot for the night.

October 22: From Rilkot we trek back to Bugdyar and camp for the night.

October 23: From Bugdyar we descend to Lilam Village. This time the trek is mostly downhill but has to be done gradually because of the steep gradient.

October 24: Starting from Lilam we retrace our steps along the Gori River past Jimi ghat to Chilam Dhar (7km) from where we board a vehicle that takes us to Munsiyari. We arrive here by late afternoon for an overnight stay at the Wayfarer lodge.

October 25: Munsyari to Jageshwar (200 km / 7 hours). It is time to bid farewell to Munsyari and its mountains. Today we board a vehicle that drives us to Jageshwar through Thal, Berinag and Barecheena. Overnight stay in Van Serai.

October 26: Jageshwar to Delhi (380 km / 10 hours). This is the day when the travellers would finally return to Delhi.
