ITINERARY

Day 01: Arrival New Delhi
Meals:

Arrival in New Delhi before or after midnight. You will be met and transferred to Hotel Star Grand Villa for overnight stay.

Day 02: Delhi-Ahmedabad-Little Rann of Kutch
Meals:
lunch, dinner

Morning transfer to the airport to fly to Ahmedabad at 0745. Arrive in Ahmedabad at 0850 hr. You will be met and transferred to Little Rann of Kutch (2 hours). Afternoon drive into the dry plains of Rann to see the onager (Asiatic Wild Ass). Overnight stay in Rann Riders.

The sanctuary is known for its herds of the handsome chestnut brown Asiatic wild ass, which is the last of India's wild horse family, does not survive elsewhere in Indian lowlands, but also supports a thriving population of gazelle, blue bull, wolf, and Indian foxes, jackal, jungle cat, hare and birds from the houbara bustard, spotted & Indian sandgrouse, francolin partridge, bustard quails, desert wheatear, desert , larks, steppe eagle, imperial eagle, short toed eagle, 4 species of vulture, laggar falcon, flamingoes, pelicans, ducks, cranes and storks.

Day 03: Little Rann of Kutch

Another day in the Little Rann of Kutch. Overnight stay in Rann Riders.

Day 04: Little Rann Of Kutch- Jamnagar
Meals:

Drive into the dry plains of Rann to see the onager (Asiatic Wild Ass). After breakfast drive to Jamnagar (6-7 hr.), birding en route. Overnight stay at Hotel President.

Day 05: Jamnagar

Visit Marine National Park for Crab Plover and other species. Overnight stay at Hotel President.

Day 06: Jamnagar-Gir National Park
Meals: dinner

Drive to Gir National Park (4 hours). Afternoon safari into the park for lion tracking (time permitting!). Overnight stay in Gir Birding Lodge. Gir National Park & Wildlife Sanctuary is a 1412 sq km tract of dry deciduous forests, acacia scrub, evergreen and semi-evergreen flora and grasslands, fed by rivers and streams. Among the many water-bodies in the reserve is the Kamleshwar Dam, known for its birdlife and for its large crocodile population.

This reserve is the last abode of the Asiatic lion and is also known for its leopard population. Other mammals of Gir are sambar (India's largest deer), chital (spotted deer), chousingha (the world's only four-horned antelope), nilgai (bluebull antelope), chinkara (Indian gazelle), wild boar, langur, jackal, jungle cat, rusty-spotted cat, striped hyena and black-naped hare.

Day 07 & 08: Gir National Park

Morning & afternoon safari into the park for lion tracking and animal viewing. Overnight stay in Gir Birding Lodge.

Day 09: Gir National Park-Velavadar

Afternoon drive to Velavadar (6 hr.). Overnight stay in Blackbuck Lodge.

Day 10: Velavadar National Park-Ahmedabad

breakfast, lunch

Morning birding in Velavadar Wildlife Sanctuary. Known for its large blackbuck antelope population, Velavadar is also one of the few places where the wolf is proliferating in India though they are rarely seen in the daylight.

Jackal, jungle cat and hare are more easily seen and Indian fox on the periphery. Sirkeer malkoha, painted francolin, chestnut-bellied and spotted sandgrouse, rufous-tailed, crested and sykes' larks, red-rumped swallows, desert and variable wheatears and other birds are seen and many raptors visit specially short-toed snake eagle, imperial, steppe, tawny, greater and lesser spotted eagles, laggar falcon, hobby, common kestrel, red-necked falcon, peregrine falcon, white-eyed and long-legged buzzard, black-shouldered kite, shikra, Eurasian sparrow-hawk and occasionally northern goshawk. Rarities include the Stoilczka's bushchat. In the evening, witness a massive roost of montagu, pallid and marsh harrier.

Drive in the afternoon to Ahmedabad (4 hours). Overnight stay in a Hotel Fortune or similar.


Day 11: Ahmedabad-Nagpur-Kanha National Park

Transfer to the airport in the morning to fly to Nagpur at 0900 hours, arriving at 1130 hours. You will be met & transferred to Kanha National Park (5½ hours). Tuli Tiger Resort.

Kanha National Park spreads over 1,945 sq. km of dense sal forests, interspersed with extensive meadows and trees and clumps of wild bamboo. This is where you can spot the tiger in all his magnificence or feast your eyes on the rare Barasingha (Swamp deer) amidst extensive grasslands. The park is also good for Indian bison. The park forms the core of the Kanha Tiger Reserve created in 1974, under Project Tiger.

It is one of the most well-maintained National Parks in Asia, and a major attraction for avid wildlife buffs all over the world. Two major rivers, Halon and Banjar, flow through the park. The sal forests of Kanha are interspersed with extensive meadows and trees and clumps of wild bamboo. This area known as Kipling Country is where the jungle book of Rudyard Kipling was conceived.

Day 12, 13, 14: Kanha National Park

Morning & afternoon safari into the park for tiger-tracking and animal viewing. Overnight stay in Tuli Tiger Resort Resort.

Day 15: Kanha National Park-Agra
Meals: breakfast
Morning drive in the park. You will be transferred to Jabalpur to connect overnight train to Agra at 1540 hours. Overnight in air conditioned sleeper class train.

Day 16: Agra-Delhi

on own
Arrive in Agra at 0430 hours. Wash and change in a small hotel. Visit Taj Mahal (closed on every Friday) and Red Fort. Drive back to Delhi (4 hr) in the late afternoon. Transfer to the airport to connect flight to return destination.
