Overview
Jamnagar is a well-known city in Gujarat. However, not many know that it is a great destination for birding as well. The region is blessed with a mix of marine and freshwater habitats, providing rich grounds for the resident and migratory bird species to flourish. Khijadiya Bird Sanctuary is an excellent birdwatching area due to its unique ecology. Birds of both the seashore and freshwater habitats are found here and include Great Crested Grebe, Red-naped Ibis, Black-necked Stork, Black-winged Stilt, Brahminy Kite, Common Crane, Grey-headed Swamphen, Greylag Geese, Flamingoes, Dalmatian Pelicans, and many duck species. Other wildlife found in the sanctuary included the Golden Jackal, Indian Hare, Jungle Cat, and Nilgai.
In addition to a rich diversity of waterbirds, both resident and migratory, the area around Jamnagar is also home to a variety of other intertidal fauna. Narara Island, located in the Marine National Park in the Gulf of Kutch, is especially important. This fragile ecosystem is home to a wide variety of invertebrates, from sponges and anemones to crustaceans.
Apart from quality birdwatching, this tour allows you to explore the world of intertidal invertebrates, an important yet often ignored group of animals. An experienced naturalist and photographer on behalf of Asian Adventures will be your host for the tour, ensuring that you don’t miss a single amazing learning and photographic opportunity!
