Overview
On this tour, we will visit some of the most popular wildlife and birding destinations of Northeast India: Manas National Park, Kaziranga National Park, and Nameri Tiger Reserve.
The elephant-grass meadows, swampy lagoons, and dense forests of Kaziranga are home to a large variety of birds and mammal species, the star being the Indian Rhinoceros. The park also hosts large populations of Asiatic Elephant, Wild Water Buffalo, Swamp Deer, and of course, Bengal Tiger. Kaziranga is also home to many bird species, including the Swamp Francolin, Pin-striped Tit-Babbler, Common Merganser, and many more.
Next, you will have the opportunity to visit the Manas Tiger Reserve where one can experience the rich biodiversity of wildlife. Manas is the melting point of the west and the east, with many species at the westernmost and easternmost point of their ranges respectively, representing a gateway for species exchanges between the typically Indian and Malayan fauna.
Our next stop is the Nameri Tiger Reserve. Nameri hosts a large variety of animal species including the Bengal Tiger, Asiatic Elephant, Leopard, Sambar, Dhole, Muntjac, Gaur, and Sloth Bear. With over 300 species of birds, Nameri is a birder’s paradise. Here we can spot White-winged Duck, Great, Wreathed, and Rufous-necked Hornbills, Black Stork, Ibisbill, Blue-bearded Bee-eater, many babbler species, plovers, and many other birds.
Lying at the foothills of the eastern Himalayas, the state of Assam is home to rich biodiversity. Join us on our Birds and Mammals of Assam Tour, covering Kaziranga, Nameri, and Manas National Parks, and discover the plethora of flora and fauna Assam has to offer, including such animals and birds like Tiger, Asiatic Elephant, Indian Rhinoceros, White-winged Duck, Swamp Francolin, Greater Adjutant, and much much more!
