Overview
Mudumalai National Park is located in southern India in the state of Tamil Nadu, although its boundaries border the states of Karnataka and Kerala as well. Located amidst the Nilgiri foothills, Mudumalai is home to a variety of birds and mammals and is especially known for its elephants. Adjoined by Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary and Bandipur National Park, Mudumalai has a fascinating topography that showcases a combination of valleys, plains, hills, swampland, and ravines.

Arrive in Bangalore in the morning. You will be met by our representative and transferred to Mudumalai. The journey to Mudumalai of approximately 255 km / 6.5 hrs is an interesting one. On the way you can stop at a bridge that crosses a river to break the journey and for some light birdwatching. Stopping along the road at Mudumalai is not permitted. However, your guide knows where you can pull off the road to explore some excellent dry scrub habitat that is sure to add some new species to the list. Reach Mudumalai and check in to the resort.

You have the full day today to explore the forests of Mudumalai.
Mudumalai National Park in Tamil Nadu is a tiger reserve with an area of 900 square km. In the dense moist deciduous forests of this area, the upper canopy reaches heights of 30 m and valuable hardwoods like teak and rosewood are also to be found here. This is one of the finest habitats of the Asian Elephant and is one of the 11 important elephant ranges declared by Project Elephant. The stretch running between Singara and Masinagudi or any of the migratory routes are among the best spots to see elephants, while elephants and other animals quenching their thirst along the banks of the Moyar River also make for a wonderful sight. Whenever possible, do have a chat with your tour leader and guide to learn more about elephants and Mudumalai’s natural history.
Key species: White-cheeked Barbet, Southern Hill Myna, White-rumped Vulture, White-bellied Drongo, Indian Paradise-Flycatcher, Yellow-browed Bulbul, Indian Scimitar-Babbler, Loten's Sunbird, Changeable Hawk-Eagle, Orange-headed Thrush, Malabar Gray Hornbill, Vernal Hanging-Parrot, Indian Yellow Tit, Nilgiri Flowerpecker.
